In response to the marine industry’s ongoing need for skilled tradesmen and women, the Marine Industries Association of South Florida (MIASF) professionally produces an award-winning educational video series that highlights the many employment opportunities and career paths available within the marine industry. Salty Jobs™ is a series of four-to-five-minute video episodes that showcase various jobs being performed by the host(s).
Details of specific education or certification requirements for each job, as well as salary ranges, travel opportunities, and work culture are revealed during engaging interviews with people who are working in the business, from entry level positions to senior management and entrepreneurs. With 142,000 jobs supported by an $18.5 billion economic impact, marine industry jobs in South Florida typically pay 16% higher than the State average.
Now in its fourth season, Salty Jobs™ episodes have been viewed thousands of times and are released on YouTube and Facebook. Additionally, the video series is being shown in South Florida 6-12 public schools, colleges, and universities, at state-funded CareerSource Centers, at meetings and events of the Greater Fort Lauderdale Alliance and other economic development organizations, at Broward County Six Pillars events, as part of national marine industry conferences, and during the Fort Lauderdale International Boat Show.
In 2019, Salty Jobs became an award-winning video series when the Resolve Maritime Academy episode won a Bronze Telly for Social Videos in the category of Education & Discovery. You can view the award-winning episode here.
